The suspension springs of sedans and some micro cars, vans, and motorcycle shock absorber springs use round springs, with steel grades such as 60Si2MnA, 55CrSi (SUP12), and 50GrVA. A sedan has a total of 4 suspension springs, 2 in the front and 2 in the rear, generally with the front diameter slightly smaller than the rear diameter. The diameters used in different models vary, with a specification range of 9 to 16mm.

The suspension spring steel plates of small trucks use high-grade spring steel plates. They are required to have high strength, long fatigue life, and good shock absorption performance. Therefore, there are high requirements for the chemical composition, number and morphology distribution of inclusions, surface quality, decarburization layer, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the spring steel wire. The suspension springs require a surface decarburization layer of less than 0.5% of the diameter, polished surface, long fatigue life, strict dimensional tolerances, and delivery without defects.
 
Generally, it is difficult to meet user requirements using conventional hot processing methods. Therefore, the springs for car spiral suspensions are gradually changing from hot forming to cold forming, and are made into coil springs after drawing and heat treatment (quenching and tempering to obtain martensitic structure). The development direction of suspension spring steel plates is to reduce carbon content, decrease decarburization tendency, and improve plastic formability and resistance to elastic attenuation.
