20Cr steel is one of the largest alloy structural steels produced in our country, with a wide range of applications. It has a higher hardness. This steel has better hardenability, strength, and toughness compared to carbon steel with the same carbon content. To improve the wear resistance of this mold steel, carburizing treatment is often performed (note: during carburizing, the steel grains tend to grow), followed by quenching and low-temperature tempering, ensuring that the mold surface has high hardness and wear resistance while the core has good toughness. It is commonly used to manufacture carburized or cyanided parts with a cross-section smaller than 30mm, simple shapes, and higher rotational speeds, such as piston pins and small shafts; it can also be used for tempered steel parts.
 
40CrNiMn is a high hardenability tempered steel with high strength, toughness, good hardenability, and stability against overheating, but it is highly sensitive to white spots and has temper brittleness. It has poor weldability, requiring high-temperature preheating before welding and stress relief after welding, and is used after tempering.
 
Application: Generally used to manufacture important components with high strength and good plasticity, and after nitriding treatment, to produce important parts with special performance requirements, such as shafts, gears, fasteners, etc.; it can be used as ultra-high strength steel after low-temperature tempering or isothermal tempering.
