Taboos of Steel Plate Springs

Author:

Leaf springs are an important component in measuring the shock absorption effectiveness of a vehicle.

Leaf springs are an important component in measuring the shock absorption effect of a vehicle. Therefore, to ensure that leaf springs have good working characteristics and service life, correct use and maintenance must be carried out during vehicle operation. Otherwise, it is easy for the leaf springs to be damaged prematurely. To avoid this situation, let's learn about some taboos regarding leaf springs.

Taboos of Leaf Springs

Taboo 1: Long-term Overloading

The load-bearing capacity of leaf springs is originally designed based on the vehicle's loading quality. If the vehicle is in a state of overload for a long time, the fatigue strength of the leaf springs will decrease, making them prone to breakage. Overloading not only damages the leaf springs but also leads to damage to the engine, transmission components, and excessive tire wear.

Suggestion: Try to ensure that the vehicle is not overloaded or unevenly loaded, and make reasonable use of the vehicle's performance.

Taboo 2: High-speed Driving

Driving at an economical speed can ensure safety and save fuel. However, if some vehicles drive at excessively high speeds, especially on poor road surfaces, it can lead to increased deformation and frequency of the leaf springs, accelerating their damage. For example, dump trucks often operate in harsh environments, yet some drivers blindly pursue economic benefits, overloading and driving at high speeds, which accelerates vehicle damage and is also unsafe.

Suggestion: Vehicles should drive at low speeds on poor road sections, especially when crossing ditches, and should slow down in advance, avoiding crossing ditches while braking.

Taboo 3: Rapidly Taking Curves

When a vehicle takes a curve, it generates a large centrifugal force. For instance, if the turn is too sharp, the large centrifugal force increases the load on the outer leaf spring, leading to deformation and excessive stress on the outer leaf spring, which can cause fatigue and breakage.

Suggestion: Vehicles should reduce speed when taking curves, with low to medium speed being the best, ensuring safety and reducing vehicle failures.
